Be Careful What You Wish For

In the early days of the earth, humans are simpler creatures, with stones for eyes, mud and sticks for bodies, and not much joie de vivre. But siblings Prometheus and Abel think there might be something missing that could bring a bit of color into their lives. When they set out on a perilous voyage to try and find what they lack, they encounter mythical animals, divine beings, and a new friend, Pandora, who, mysteriously, has a locked door in her chest.

Be Careful What You Wish For was originally produced in 2021 as a multi-medium musical movie created by the 2021 WSOT cast and a team of visual and film artists of all ages. The movie is available for viewing ahead of our 2024 staged production. Pay what you wish to watch!

The Winter Sort of Thing program (WSOT) is a 5 month program for experienced YACA students to participate in the staging of a full-length musical. Students are educated further in all aspects of the theater arts while attending rehearsals with professional artists for the production. The cast works intensively to learn blocking, choreography, lines, and songs, to build sets, paint props, and sew costumes. Through that process, they grapple with themes in a magical story that are relevant to the challenges they face in their day to day lives. In this program, they are able to achieve a goal that at some point in the process seems impossible. This hard work culminates in the performing of an original student-conceived, staff written/composed musical in front of an audience.
