Theatre Camp

Kids arrive and start the day with a specific morning project that then leads into a time of warm-up. They are then split into their specific groups or tribes and make their way through 2 artistic classes that may include acting, movement, visual arts and storytelling. All the tribes come together for lunch before completing 2 more artistic classes in the afternoon. The day ends with showings of what the tribes have accomplished throughout the day and a healthy snack. Throughout the two or three week camp the teachers focus on specific skills of the above disciplines while helping the kids to create an original theatre production to be performed on the last day of camp.

Session 1: June 26 - July 14 History Repeated *No camp July 4*
They say that “those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it” or are we? Journey through the past to explore history and maybe re-write it!

Session 2: July 17 - August 4 Welcome to the Future
Use your imagination to dream up what could be! Be it 2020 or the year 11789, we will create the stories to come. What does the future hold?

Theatre Camp Intensives (One week sessions)

Kids arrive and start the day with a specific morning project that then leads into a time of warm-up. They are then ushered into classes that focus on the skills being explored in the intensive. Students work closely with a couple of specific artist teachers throughout the week to end in a presentation of the skills learned.

August 7-11: You are Here: Site Specific Visual Arts Intensive
This one week intensive will focus on the visual arts! Join our exciting adventure into the creation of a site specific visual arts piece. This week will end with a presentation of the finished art piece. This is a great opportunity to learn some new and exciting skills!

August 7-11: Behind the Scenes: Tech Training *Only 8 slots available!*
This special intensive will introduce you to the world of backstage! Working closely with our Summer Sort of Things program, participants will learn and fulfill technical roles needed for our outdoor musical. Classes will include set and prop design, acting intensives, technical training and more. Please note that hours for this program are extended to include the show (Monday & Tuesday 9-3, Wednesday thru Friday 9-8pm).

Theatre Camp Workshops (Two week sessions)

Kids arrive and start the day with a specific morning project that then leads into a time of warm-up. They are then split into their specific groups or tribes and make their way through artistic classes or activities that may include acting, movement, visual arts and storytelling. All the tribes come together for lunch before completing more artistic classes or activities in the afternoon. The day ends with showings of what the tribes have accomplished throughout the day and a healthy snack. Throughout the two week camp the teachers focus on a specific set of skills of the above disciplines while helping the kids to create an original work, be it a theatre piece, movie, movement piece, art installation or other exciting creation yet to be discovered. This program differs from Theatre Camp in that it happens within a smaller time frame and allows for the exploration of different types of presentations.

August 14-25: A Hero’s Journey
Discover heroes from every space and time and the quests that the endured. With so many stories, you will be sure to access the hero within yourself!

Before/After Care

Camp typically runs from 9AM until pick-up at 3PM. Some of our sites have the option for before and/or after care. Please indicate on your registration form if you are in need of extended care and we will contact you with availability.

Some of our families need to utilize a longer day of care for their family. For the past few years, we have been happy to offer extended enrichment times for these families. Campers who stay longer are teamed with a Staff member and help set-up, tear down or are utilized to further our imaginative story with crafts, building sets, and more. We start at 8am with early care and close at 5pm with late care. Extended day care can be added by the day or the week, but we do require a week’s notice in order to have proper staff coverage. The costs for this are $6/day for AM and $12/day for PM care. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer scholarships to cover before and after care as the money goes right to the staff members responsible for the care.

Showtimes

Every camp culminates in an original performance. We can't tell you what they are, because your child is part of the writing and creating process! We can tell you that these showcases are exciting, celebratory, and always an adventure. Our Theatre Camps and middle school workshops will put on a larger show on their last Friday at 6pm. (Kids stay after camp for rehearsal and pizza!). Our Middle School Intensives will showcase at 3 or 3:30 on Friday (with the exception of the intensive associated with Summer Sort of Thing - see that page!)

What To Bring, What To Wear

Please pack your kids a lunch. We will provide a healthy snack for them, but please pack them a decent-sized lunch and plenty of fluids. Cold water is provided for them to keep hydrated! We have the ability to keep the lunches cold, but it would be best if they are “ready to eat” and do not need to be heated. Please make sure your kids do not bring any personal items to camp including money, jewelry, electronics, etc. Cell phones and portable gaming devices will not be allowed to be used at camp. Please have your children wear loose-fitting clothes that might get dirty. Think of what you might wear to a yoga class but not brand-new because we don’t want to ruin anything! If we are planning on an especially dirty (think paint) or water-centric (think water balloons) day, we’ll let you know in advance!

More Forms!

Of course, after applying for camp through our handy on-line form (or downloading the PDF version here) you might have thought that you were done with forms. But no! We require an emergency form and a media release. The first day of camp you will be asked to stop for a few minutes and fill them out OR you can download them, print them out and send them or bring them with you the first day.

Returning families: We probably have your records on file. You can save a tree and just let us know if there has been any changes in their/your information in the past year.
