SHADOW Camp
Quickly becoming one of the most transformative programs Yes! And… has to offer, SHADOW Camp is a two-part summer-long experience for high school aged students.
SHADOW Camp is a Summer Theatre Arts Intensive, emerging students in ensemble-based theatre training, master classes, and collaborative arts training across artistic disciplines. Students participate daily in an intense ensemble actor-training program developing the essential theatre-making (and life) skills of listening, safe space, and effective group process. Specialized master classes and collaborative arts training (in movement/dance, the visual arts, creative and play writing, and music composition) diversify their experience and skill sets, exposing students to the wide and varied possibilities of the arts. As a young ensemble, students are then asked to operate as their own theatre company; with the guidance and collaboration of Yes! And… staff, they go to task creating, producing, and performing an original work of theatre. The Theatre Arts Intensive happens in a three-week session at the end of the summer… But, before that, there is the Leadership Development Program...
SHADOW campers participate in the Leadership Development Program (LDP) as the employment component to their leadership development. Students in LDP are hired by Yes! And... as teaching assistants, mentors, and youth leaders for camps serving both elementary and middle-school aged students. These Junior Staff participate in Yes! And... Staff Trainings and Professional Development leading up to and during the summer, gaining training and experience alongside professional artist educators. They gain work experience in arts education, theatre production and program administration and meet regularly with SHADOW Camp staff debriefing, evaluating and discussing their work experiences. |
